“MONTANA” Chapter

While this site is not inclusive of all the performances I did while based in New York and around the world prior to 2020, I do want to honor the work that happened during the nesting, resetting, and even incubatory time of living in Montana–being held by the land, the people, and the medicine of this small yet incredible community of beings that graced my life from 2020-2025.
Thank you.

The Field, 2023 - MT Open AIR residency

After spending 5 weeks in residence at the historic Moon-Randolph Homestead, I invited sound collaborator Curtis Tamm in for a final presentation and artist discussion. Performing “in the elements” is one of my favorite ways to share with an audience. There’s no “box” or defined viewing space, and here the birds, sun, grasses, wind, and audience were a part of the choreography. This residency helped me “come home” to my practice after focusing less on my artistic work as I grew my coaching+healing business. It was a return to researching our connection to the invisible world (a theme I began exploring when I choreographed White in 2014-15) and the healing potency of art and live performance. Huge gratitude to Open AIR and Moon-Randolph for hosting me.

Under_The Field, 2024

A looping video presented at the Zootown Arts Community Center in Missoula, MT and at the Foreground Gallery in Butte, MT. Footage captured from a rehearsal for “The Field”.

Collaborations with Chance Jackson

I met Chance when he photographed my first coaching + healing retreat at Dancing Spirit Ranch in 2021. Our collaboration continued in subsequent photo and video projects, often discovering the unexpected, majestic magic of nature—most notably in Glacier National Park. TOUCHDOWN, 2024

This piece was commissioned by the University of Montana Dance Department. The title plays on the love for football at the University and the way that we are all manifestations of Source / Spirit touching down on this Earth for our lifetimes. Each dancer learned how to work with their Human Design Authority in improvisation, and we explored themes of repose, absurdity, and the order that arises from seeming chaos as we follow our Inner Authority.

This guest-artist residency and development of original work was partially funded by the ASUM Dance Club. Thank you to Karter Bernhardt for sound-design assistance.

Other Projects

I also participated in several other projects including a solo performance at the Missoula Art Museum and performances with musicians Caroline Davis (see Caroline Davis x Michelle Boulé) and Bill Kautz. I also created dozens of small video sketches, mostly outdoors, which you can find on my social media accounts.

Bill Kautz, collaborations 2023, 2024

Michelle Boulé’s solo performance work The Monomyth explores narratives of loneliness and solitude, following the trajectory of a soloist (Boulé) through a continuous movement experience. A reexamination of individualism, the dance is simultaneously a manifestation of isolation and a celebration of connection through the alchemy of movement and presence.

Missoula Art Museum, 2023

A moment to fill this space with a sliver of movement. The beautiful staff of this museum (with free admission) welcomed me to perform this evening and also pop in anytime to dance with the current exhibitions. Besides the woods, mountains, lakes, and trees, this was an artistic resource.

Glacier Dances, 2021

RAADfest 2021 invited me to create a performance for their hybrid online and in-person festival.
